Why is Pencil Running for Governor?
To Make a Point:
Oregon’s Education System is Failing our Children and our leaders won’t even admit it!
Oh, Pencil, how bad could it be?
Bad. This year, Oregon ranked DEAD LAST in fourth-grade literacy. ​Only 40% of our third-graders are reading at grade level.
That IS bad. But surely our education leaders have something to say about this crisis. Right?

So Pencil, what can we do?
It's time to demand our leaders prioritize children over adult comfort.
Let kids and parents know this is not their fault.
We have a systemic problem that requires nothing less than the wholesale reform of our education system. ​
But Pencil, that sounds really hard.
Yes, it is. But not as hard as telling children we don’t believe in them enough to try.
